| Authors: | CHUA GEOK FONG KARINA |
| Issue Date: | 2009 |
| Abstract: | "As the Internet continues to grow in popularity and education institutions feel the need to have a presence online, “Teaching and Learning Online” has become somewhat of an Information Technology (IT) cliché. Educational courses materials are made available online and it is left up to the learner to learn. The claims made for online courses promise considerable cost savings after the initial establishment period, and opportunities to provide education to a larger, globalized marketplace. For students, online learning is thought to allow more flexible study options and the opportunity to work and study at the same time.
This project aims to design and implement an integrated Electronic Learning (also known as e-Learning) environment, using the ‘Macromedia Flash’ software application to facilitate learning. In this project, it’s specifically targeting tertiary education level and above of learners in understanding their area of study on Aerospace. The accomplishment of e-Learning environment pertaining on Aerospace topics / syllabus would eventually benefit the educational industry for its ability to support a flexible teaching and learning environment. The user-friendly applications also enrich the learning process by providing individualized exploration, allowing students to examine / learn in a risk-free environment. The project flash simulations offer learners the opportunities to experience some events or phenomenon and also aid to assist educator with better explanatory on those Aerospace topics / syllabus which are more complex to teach verbally.
The first part of this report covers on the background study on the Pedagogy and Online Learning. It included a comprehensive literature review in the teaching and learning aspect. An account on the design, implementation and testing of the system were also discussed in the later part of the report. On the closing chapter, I made a summary by sharing on the experiences by reviewing and reflecting through the entire process of the project course work.
