| Title: | ANALYSIS OF SURGE AND NOISE OF POWER LINE |
| Authors: | Nwe Ni Win |
| Issue Date: | 2009 |
| Abstract: | "Power surges are a common cause of damage to computers and electronic equipment. Power surges occur when the electrical charge boosts at some point in the power lines. This causes an increase in the electrical potential energy, which can increase the current flowing to the wall outlet.
The system of transformers and lines that brings electricity from a power generator to the outlets in our homes or offices is extraordinarily complex. There are dozens of possible points of failure, and many potential errors that can cause an uneven power flow. In today's system of electricity distribution, power surges are an unavoidable occurrence.
In this project, we will analyze the power surge and noise signals by embedded control system. The system includes four major components: transformer, microcontroller, ADC and filter. The project investigates the limitation and application of individual components in the design and to construct the prototype.
The microcontroller (PIC16FJ64GA002) is programmed using C language which is then complied using MPLAB compiler. It has built-in ADC that will convert input analog voltage/current into digital number of proportional to the magnitude of voltage/current. When the voltage comes in from transformer output, operational amplifier will filter the surge voltage. ADC will convert analog voltage to digitalized voltage. Microcontroller will generate digitalized data and communicate with PC.
The report starts with the Project Objective in Chapter 1. It follows by Chapter 2 Literature Review. After the various researches and review in Literature Review, Chapter 3 is carried on of hardware design. After which, Chapter 4 is explaining the understanding Software and Programming Device.
In Chapter 5, the system integration of both hardware and software are literally concluded with results of the final product. In Chapter 6, the Project Management is one of the important parts that contributes to the success of the project which includes the proper planning and meet date lines from the start to the end of the project. Various types of problems encountered during the process of the entire project in Chapter 7. Finally Chapter 8 is talking about Conclusion of the project and Future Recommendations.
