| Title: | "CROWD MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR LARGE SCALE THEME" |
| Authors: | CHEONG JONG ONN |
| Issue Date: | 2009 |
| Abstract: | "Theme parks all over the world, such as the integrated resort which is going to be built in Singapore, is facing with the problem on how to give their visitors with the greatest satisfaction when they visit the park. One of the major dissatisfaction is the long queue that leads to long waiting time for enjoying all the rides.
This project aims to design a crowd management system to mange the queue of the visitors at each ride. The ultimate aim of this project is to increase the visitors’ satisfaction level so that majority of the visitors will be able to enjoy all the rides in the theme parks within a stipulated duration. As a result, the revenue of the theme park will also be increased.
In this project, the elements of queuing theory were first explored to have glimpse on two fundamental waiting line concepts of M/D/1 and D/D/1. Later, with using relevant mathematical formula to quantify, analyse and compare the relativity of these two concepts to the theme park situation, concepts on crowd management were developed based on these M/D/1 and D/D/1 models.
Using some computer simulation software (e.g. Arena Simulation Software), results were simulated and data was collected on the queue time, waiting cost and non-value added cost at each ride with respect to the size of the crowd. With the data collected, together with applying queuing theory quantitative technique, sequence of visit to the rides in the theme park for all the visitors so as to keep their queue time at a minimum were generate.
There is a great commercial value for this project if this crowd management system is proved to be successful, especially for the up-coming Universal Studio Theme Park in Singapore.
