| Abstract: | "Increasing population of aging citizens in Singapore and a decreasing birth rate had put an urgent need of ensuring that the age old parents live comfortably, safely and independently when comes to designing senior citizens apartments.
This project looks at providing these old pioneers a simple remote controller to control household appliances which has advanced considerably in technology and provide their children a way to monitor their activities and be alerted when their parents need urgent attention.
The approach is centre around a remote controller, receivers attached to appliances to be control and a computer based monitoring system in a wireless environment.
The result is a simple to operate remote controller and an internet connected personal computer with the monitoring system. An SOS system that will sends out SOS email to any registered users when activated.
At the end, this system not just provides the senior citizens a simple wireless remote controller, it also provides their children or care giver a way to response to any SOS calls and keeping this project at minimal cost by building it around low cost micro-controller.
