Title: DEVELOPMENT OF SINGLE SHOT INJECTION DEVICE

Abstract: Injection is one of the universal healthcare procedures where medication follows the parenteral route of administration into the patient’s body through the use of an injection syringe. According to statistics data estimated by World Health Organization (WHO), there are approximately 16 billion injections administered globally every year. A safe injection will not cause adverse harm to human lives. However, when the control of safety injection is not following to the universal medical procedure of “Single Use Only”, a serious and deadly infection can put human lives at risk. Therefore to address the global health concerns related to the reuse of injection syringes, the objective of this project is to design and develop a Single Shot Safety Injection Syringe. Also, the new injection syringe is designed to equip with a safety feature to protect healthcare professionals from needle-stick injury. This project adopted the approach of Product Design And Development Cycle and each stage in the cycle was carried out based on preliminary design process (e.g. market review, market feedback) and experimental process (e.g. functional evaluation of prototype). On the whole, the advantages of the proposed safety injection syringe are to eliminate the reuse of the injection syringe as well as to reduce the risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens transmitted through needle-stick injury.
